OkaZHI Travels to Mongu

With generous support from Kelowna Orthopaedics, 14 members of OkaZHI left for Mongu, Zambia to present a very ambitious teaching program Oct 26th - Nov 5th.
Over the next 2 weeks, 5 separate Continuing Education Modules will be taught to the healthcare providers in Western Province. On this trip our surgeons Dr. Bill Nelems, Dr. Gary O'Connor, Dr. Bryan Tighe and CNS Surgeon Dr. Bob Taylor as well as Dr Glynn Jones GP anaesthetist will teach an essential surgical services course, and a hernia repair course. In addition, Dr. Linda Hawker, Dr. Tim Murphy and Dr. Bill East will present workshops on diabetes, hypertension and sepsis. The nursing component consists of nurses Jessica Barker, Lianne Jones, Mary Mitchell, Felour Behrouzi, Janelle Caldwell presenting a comprehensive 3 day nursing surgical skills course. This course will be offered both weeks to maximize the number of nursing participants able to attend. Completing the compliment is nurse Kim East presenting an 8 day basic critical care workshop.
